With the changing seasons, you’ll see a change in designer Manju Agarwal’s store Resham, which has just taken on a new look. With a brand new collection inspired by the Mughal era, Resham harks back to the 16th century. Starting her line nearly 14 years ago, the designer has succeeded in expanding her collection not only in Calcutta but in Mumbai and Hyderabad stores too.

You will need an appointment if you want a trousseau designed by Manju. But there is more than just a bridal collection at Resham; Indo-western and ethnic wear for all occasions also has a permanent spot on store shelves at Resham, 113 Park Street.

Decor

The wooden look of the 1,300-sq-ft showroom is essential to “allow the colours to come through” says Shubhro, assistant to the designer. A separate compartment which allows a private moment (or moments) till you have picked

out the perfect outfit for your wedding is cosy. The simple decor and lighting give way to patterns and colours which once belonged to the Mughal dynasty.

Collection

The Mughal architecture is reflected in the collection as well. Fabrics such as casual silks and cotton silks mostly brought in from Varanasi and Bangalore prominently appear in the store. Applique work on brightly pastel coloured georgette, velvet and tulle, the combination of hand-embroidery and machine work, gota work and kantha work on net all lend a Lucknowi Mughal touch.

Anarkali salwars have been given a different look with brocade borders or trendy shrugs. One can also find Western wear with an Indian touch, such as the camouflaged velvet jackets and knee-length floral dresses.

Prices of the casual wear start from Rs 2,500 while bridal wear is Rs 45,000-plus.
