Rocking attitude

Style according to you is

An extension of my aesthetics. It’s not decided by brands but by what I think is beautiful.

Five items in your closet you can’t do without

Jeans, my jazzy kurtis, a grey T-shirt, perfumes and sunglasses.

Most extravagant buy

A soft, wrinkle-free fabric which I used to make a short, dressy shirt recently. I’ve never paid so much (a few thousand rupees) for a couple of metres of fabric.

What do you like to mix and match?

I think jeans paired with kurtis — of any hue — make for a great combination.

What kind of a shopper are you?

I’m not an impulsive buyer. My shopping is sporadic but not unplanned. But when I go shopping, which is once in three months, I end up buying a lot more than what I had intended.

Your favourite shopping destinations?

Fabindia, Provogue and Pantaloons as you get everything you want to buy under one roof.

You have a fetish for...

All kinds of brightly coloured things — and that could be the walls of my house. I also love to accessorise with earrings and pendants.

How would you describe your closet — well-organised and spanking clean or dreadfully cluttered?

I am in charge of my closet and try my level best to be organised and neat.

Latest buys

An aqua coloured T-shirt from Spencer’s which is the current hot favourite.

If money were no object, what would you add to your closet?

Some very fancy sunglasses.

The trend you are sporting at the moment

Metrosexual with a bit of arrogance thrown in. I like stylish things but I need to express a bit of rebellion too in my personal style…

If there was a fire, what would you save?

My guitars.

The essentials in your handbag

Cell phone, cigarettes, matches…

Inherited treasures...

A ring which a loved one once gave me and which I cherish even now.

On a date, you’d be seen wearing

I would like to dress casually so it will have to be blue jeans and a T-shirt.

Is there any outfit you love to wear but which your family just hates?

On stage I’d love to cut up my jeans and wear them as shorts. But I suppose my band and my audience would throw a fit (they are my only family).

What would you throw out on a cleaning spree?

I’ve got loads of jeans and T-shirts that I don’t wear anymore. These will have to go.

Your desert uniform would be...

White T-shirt, shorts and boots…

Indian designers whose creations you love wearing

Wendell Rodricks, because I love his style and the way he plays with colours. I love my designer Abhik’s work because he is very different from others and appreciates my love for offbeat colour combinations.

Clothes, they say, maketh a man. True or false?

Clothes do help make the first impression but then that’s not always the last impression.

Did you ever go through any wild fashion phase?

I’ve got a strand of red hair (or call it a rat’s tail) even today — which I think is wild but stylish.

Biggest fashion faux pas...

I used to wear lots of long kurtas till I realised that they didn’t suit me.

One aspect of fashion that bugs you the most...

People’s obsession with brand names. I think aesthetics matters more than brands.

If you could change any of your features, what would it be?

I often wish I had long eyelashes and a sharper nose.

A fashion tip...

Just be comfortable in whatever you wear.

(As told to Nandini Guha)
