For shoots it depends on the kind of look that is required. But when I do my own make-up, I keep it very light. I use a bit of blusher, a dash of the bronzer, a coat of the mascara and the lip gloss and I am ready to step out. My make-up kit has cosmetics from MAC, Clinique and Bobbi Brown.

I am 15-year-old boy suffering from an acute hairloss problem. I also have dandruff. Please suggest a natural remedy.

Sameen, via e-mail

Dandruff might be the reason behind the hairloss problem. Drink plenty of water, go for a balanced and healthy diet and incorporate changes in your lifestyle. Massage your scalp with a mixture of coconut oil and the juice of a lemon. Leave it on for an hour and wash off with a mild herbal shampoo. This should be done twice a week. Also apple henna on your hair every 15 days.

I am a 17-year-old girl. I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner once a week and also apply almond oil on a regular basis. I also trim my hair at regular intervals. But my hair refuses to grow beyond a certain length. Please help.

Go for a nutritious diet. Mix almond and castor oils and apply this on your hair. Follow it with turban therapy.

Heat and humidity can be damaging to your hair. Proper preventive steps need to be taken during this season to ensure that your hair does not get damaged. Here are some haircare tips for the

Summer and monsoon seasons:

If you know you are going to be in the sun for a long time and if you don’t want to wear anything on your head, use a ‘leave-in’ conditioner with sunscreen in it before you venture out. Conditioners and/or leave-in treatments should be used every time your hair is shampooed as they replenish moisture and help protect the hair from mechanical, chemical and environmental damages.

Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water as it can damage your hair and skin. Lukewarm water works best. To lock in the moisture, run your hair through cold water, this will also give your hair an extra shine.

Use a clarifying shampoo after swimming to wash out the chlorine/salt and any residues that may be in your hair. Chlorine will severely dry out your hair if it is not washed out thoroughly.

Get your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks, your hair grows faster in the warmer months and frizzes are more common in the monsoon months due to the humidity and moisture.

A professional hair spa or a home deep-conditioning treatment should be done once a week or more frequently if your hair is very dry. Conditioners contain moisturisers that hydrate the hair and help prevent drying out. They leave the hair feeling soft and manageable.

Wearing your hair up, braiding it or put it in a bun will help contain entanglements.

If you follow these simple haircare tips, you will get a lustrous and healthy mane in no time at all.

TIPS

• Staying hydrated is important, so make sure to drink enough water during the day.
• Don’t wash your hair too often; shampooing your hair strips the moisture out of your hair. When you do shampoo, use a conditioner without fail. Also use a moisturising shampoo instead of the regular shampoo.
• Before entering into a swimming pool/ocean, wet your hair with loads of fresh water, this will decrease the absorption of chlorinated/salt water into your hair.
