CBSE results on Friday morning
The results of Class XII examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be declared in Delhi at 8am on Friday. The results will thereafter be available on the Internet at the CBSE website www.cbsereults.nic.in.
Suicide by BA student
Sarmistha Sadhukhan, 25, consumed poison early on Thursday at her SN Banerjee Road residence. A BA student of a south Calcutta college, Sarmistha was the only daughter of her parents. She was rushed to Medical College and Hospital, where she later died. No suicide note was found. Police claim the girl was depressed about her relationship with her boyfriend, who is also a distant relative.
Hangs himself
Kedar Shaw, 38, a resident of Vivekananda Road and an employee of a transport company, hanged himself early on Thursday. The body was discovered by his family members. No suicide note was found. Preliminary investigations suggest Shaw was disturbed over marital discord.
Poorva delay
The Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express via Patna has been rescheduled for Friday because of the late running of the Howrah-bound train. Eastern Railway officials said the train will leave Howrah at 1.05pm instead of 8.05am.
Bribe arrest
A section engineer of the electrical department of Eastern Railway’s Sealdah division was arrested by the CBI on charges of taking a bribe. A. Saha had allegedly demanded a bribe from a contractor, who had lodged a complaint against him. CBI officials said they had caught Saha red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 7,000.
Actress dies
Somashree Sarkar, the TV actress knocked down by a chartered bus on April 14 near a mall in Baguiati, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday. Officers of Baguiati police station said Somashree, who starred in several serials, had been fighting for her life in a nursing home and died of a cardiac arrest. She also suffered a nerve failure.
Power alert
Power supply to the northern fringes might be affected on Friday by CESC maintenance work at its Kamarhati distribution station between 9am and 11.30am and again between noon and 2pm.
Cop recruits held
Two candidates who had cleared the physical fitness and subsequent interviews for the post of constables were arrested at the police training school on Wednesday night. Madhusudan Gupta, a resident of Goghat, and Debarshi Biswas of Balagarh, both in Hooghly district, were rounded up from the training school for qualifying for the examination with the help of dummy candidates. Cops said they joined the training course a month ago.
