WHO AM I

Born on June 19, 1947, I’m a British novelist and essayist of Indian origin. I was awarded the Booker Prize for my second novel. One of my novels is extremely controversial and I have received death threats for writing it. A religious group even issued a fatwa against me. Recently, I have been nominated for the highly prestigious Man Booker Prize. Who am I?

Answer to last week’s question: Shoaib Akhtar
